Turmeric milk aka "Golden Milk" has been a drink that has been passed down in our family and usually comes out when we aren't feeling the best. However, I have always loved the taste and find it so comforting before bed that I have been making it more often. I wanted to share my recipe with you because it is a little bit different than most you find online and it's usually a hit with kids!

Turmeric has many health benefits such as:

  • It improves your immune system

  • Helps with digestion

  • Good for your skin ( Great for clearing your skin)

  • Helps reduce inflammation and is good for autoimmune diseases

  • Reduces headaches

  • Good for your mind and heart

  • Helps reduce aches and pains

So, pretty much it's great for you! I personally like to have it when trying to fight off a cold or I am restless at night!

What you will need:

  • ! tsp. of Turmeric ( I usually put enough to make a bright light yellow colour)

  • A sprinkle of Saffron ( not too much, a few strands will do! )

  • 2 Cups of milk ( I recently switched over to unsweetened Almond milk because I'm trying to reduce my diary intake)

  • 1/2 tsp tsp of cinnamon or one cinnamon stick ( I love cinnamon so I always add it to everything, it's also good for you)

  • 3 pieces of cardamon ( I love the way this makes it taste, it gives it a chai vibe)

  • Sweetener of choice ( I usually use sugar, but you can use honey or maple syrup or a sugar alternative)

You can add or reduce any of the ingredients it's totally up to you and your preference! To be honest, I rarely measure anything out when cooking or making my golden milk! It's in my blood to just kind of wing it and just throw a bunch of stuff in!

What you need to do:

  1. Warm up your milk on medium heat in a pot

  2. Once the milk is slightly warm, add in your turmeric until it turns to a bright yellow (not too dark otherwise it will be too bitter)

  3. Add in your saffron, cinnamon, and cardamon. Personally, I crush the cardamon before putting it in to release more flavour. These ingredients are a must to amp up your golden milk!

  4. Slowly add your sweetener in. The amount you will add will vary on how sweet you prefer it to be.

  5. Continue to mix the milk for 1-2 minutes. This is when I usually do a taste test to see if I need to add more sugar or cinnamon to the mix.

  6. Once you get it to your liking, pour into cup and enjoy!

There you have it a delicious healthy drink! Enjoy it when you feel a cold coming on or nightly before bed! Make sure to let the little ones try it!

Until next time,

Alysia xo
